Summer Vacation

Next up Summer Vacations; Česká Republika; Repubblicca Italiana and Koninkrijk België. At the final week of August, I went to the capital city of Česká Republika, Praha for 4 days. Praha Zoo, seventh best zoo in the world according to Forbes; Karlův most, a 600 meter stone bridge which took almost 200 years to construct; Prague Castle, worlds biggest castle in the Guinness Books of Record; St Vitus Cathedral, Gothic cathedral containing tombs of many Bohemian and Holy Roman Empire kings; Old Town Square, historic square in the heart of Praha; Astronomical Clock, oldest working astronomical clock in the world; Old New Synagogue, Europe oldest working synagogue; Wenceslas Square, center of business and cultural community in the New Town of Praha; Vltava River, flows pass the Bohemian country into Elbe then to the North Sea are among the places visited.

After leaving Česká Republika I arrive at Milano a city situated in the northern regions of Italy. A short night rest and was off early next morning by rail to a city filled with canals and bridges. Venezia was beautiful, Palazzo Ducale, contains one of the largest room in Europe the Chamber of the Great Council; Basilica di San Marco, a symbol of Venetian wealth and power nicknamed Church of Gold; Piazza San Marco, the drawing room of Europe; Campanile di San Marco, a place where Galileo Galilei demonstrated his telescope ;  Ponte di Rialto, a bridge with such a bold design that lead to the prediction of future ruin; Ca' Rezzonico, a palace of a powerful Venetian family; Grand Canal, the main "road" of Venice; and Museo Correr, museum reveling art, life and culture of the Venetian Republic.

Firenze was next on the list; a train took me away from the costal city of Venezia to the inland town of Firenze. Florence was at the heart of the Renaissance places such as Galleria dell'Accademia Firenze, founded by the house of Medici and hold Michelangelo's David in its Tribuna; Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore, where it's dome is largest brick dome ever stood on the face of Earth; Piazza della Signoria, focal point of Firenze; Palazzo Vecchio, fortress looking palace is the most impressive town hall in Tuscany; Galleria degli Uffizi, one of the oldest and most well known art museum in the western world; Ponte Vecchio,  rumored to be the place where the concept of bankruptcy originated; Bascilica di Santa Croce, place where many famous Italians (Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, etc) lay rest and Pitti Palace, the chief residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. While in Firenze I took a day and travel to the nearby town of Pisa to visit the world famous poor architectural plannning Tower of Pisa and the Cathedral at Piazza dei Miracoli.

After 2 nights in Firenze it was time for me to move on, I left Firenze for the capital city of Italy Roma. Colosseo, a 50,000 seater arena completed in 80AD; Roman Forum, venue for elections and public speech at the heart of ancient Rome; Piazza di Spagna, the widest staircase in Europe; Fontana di Trevi, the teminal of an ancient aqeduct with a famous coin throwing location; Villa Borghese, a place to chill, lie down and have a gelato; Pantheon, temple of all gods the old and the new; Ponte Sant' Angelo, a bridge with statues by Raffaello and Castel Sant' Angelo, mausoleum with archangel Michael were the places I visited in Roma. I also manage to enter the unique soveriegn state of Stato della Citta del Vaticano which is inside the city of Rome. There I amazed at the Piazza San Pietro, one of the most famous squares in the world; Musei Vaticani, containing famous work of arts in it halls (Scuola di Atene, the Gallery of Maps); Bascilica Sancti Petri, one of the holiest place of Catholic sites and Sacellum Sixtinum, The Creation of Adam and The Last Judgement was the crown achievement of  Michelangelo .

Another 3 nights went by and it was almost time to say our goodbyes to Repubblicca Italiana but not without taking a stroll around the city I landed Milano. I visited Santa Maria delle Grazie, the church that contains The Last Supper; Duomo di Milano, fifth largest cathedral in the world; Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, oldest shopping mall in Italy on that short day. Later that day, I took a flight to Koninkrijk België where I spent the next 3 days of my life.

Between those 3 days I visited the Grote Markt, the most memorable landmark of Brussels,  Mini Europe, Europe in 3 hours; Atomium, legacy from the 1958 Brussels World Fair; Les Geleries Saint Hubert, a shopping mall even older than the last 1; Parlamentarium, the visitor's center of the European Parliament, Berlaymont, headquarters of the European Union Commision and Manneken Pi, famous sculpture of urination.

After Brussels I arrived in Liverpool by air at 10pm and had a one of a kind experience at that city waiting outside of the train station till 4 am for my ride back to Glasgow. By then is 16th of September and I 1500 Euros poorer but lot richer in experiences for this was an adventure of a lifetime.

Lùnastal

4 months slipped past me since August 2012, hope I am still able to recalled what had happened then. I had my 1st End of Semester exam in the British Isles this month. A total of 2 papers were taken this semester excluding the exemption I obtained for PP3. Apart from test and exams, August was also a month filled with travel and adventure. Edinburgh was the first stop I visited after the EOS, a castle from the High Middle Ages, a unique camera obscura and Debussy Nocturnes from the grand circle of Usher hall completed with some fireworks made it a memorable day.

Few days after the trip to Edinburgh, the Great Summer Adventure began and will be reserved for another time.

Just to mentions some other interesting sounds I have forgotten to include in July's post. The pipe organ recital at Kelvingrove Art Gallery is magnificent and the World Pipe band competition was an absolute delight.

Random Ramble

After writing the last post I planned to continue to complete the rest of August, September and October before the arrival of November but it seems this plan never left the draw board. I hope I am able to muster what ever motivation I have to complete my experiences throughout 2012 before this year expires. It snowed in Glasgow on the 2nd of December for the 1st time this winter. It was great fun playing in the snow; snow ball fighting, makeshift sleighing, snowman building ...... All those things every kid long to do !! It was an unforgettable night. Christmas lighting around Glasgow city has been up for around a fortnight and carols have been heard. Its the time of the year to learn from mistakes that have been committed over the past 12 months and take pride of whatever achievement that have been done.

Iúil

Post indon (3)

Woke up after the 2nd night in Bandung after they had came back from breakfast with some extra food for us who haven't went. After breakfast we travel to a forest reserve in Bandung to visit 1 of the famous waterfall there. Much to our disappointment the waterfall is around 5 km away from the entrance therefore we decided to just skipped the waterfall. We walked around the forest reserve for about an hour or so. We saw few landmark which are situated not to far from the entrance which include a cave which have a very cool breeze coming out of it. Apart from that the cave is also pitch black without a single bit of light after 10 feet into it. After the forest reserve we went to a small shopping mall in Jalan Dago to have our lunch. The lunch were quite satisfying and I left earlier to the building next to the mall. The building is a money changer. There I found out that there is difference in the way money changer operate in Indonesia and Malaysia. They came over to find me after they have completed their meal and we travel 45 min out of town to a hot spring planing for a hot spring bath. We changed our minds after we arrive at the location and see the spring as the water in the spring is horribly murky and the surrounding aren't any more hygienic either. So we decided to walk around for a while before heading back to town. It was a surprise for us to find out that the waterfall that we missed earlier is about 50-100m away only so we walk to the waterfall and have quite some fun around that place. We went back to Jln Dago to visit the factory outlets there after the waterfall. We really shop till we drop there with barely enough for dinner. We had our dinner in a restaurant along Jln Dago. The food at the restaurant were fantastic I forgot what name is it but we asked WS to take pictures of the signboard. After dinner we continue to shop on credit till our hand are full of bags before we hail a cab and head back. It the hotel we had some rest then started to packing as we departing from the hotel at 4 in the morning. Me and CY woke up at 3 for the complementary breakfast on the final day and went back to wake the rest at around 3.30. We packed up and leave the hotel at around 4.15 and arrived at the airport in time for our check-in. The departure hall of the Sasteranegara International Airport is also very different. People are not allow to enter the building if he or she does not posses an valid air ticket. There is another drama before we board the plane. We found out that we need to pay a certain fee of Rp 75000 before we are allowed to board. Luckily for the hotel deposit if not we are not going to be able to produce the amount needed to board the flight. After that the rest of the journey back were uneventful. Later the day we went to Classroom Cafe again with more company this time. The venture this time saw Me, BT CY WS boey bala chewie jeremy WS and clement participate.

Post indon (2)

Day 2 of Bandung start of with a buffet breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we explored the area surrounding the hotel. Our hotel were situated at Jln Riau which is in the mid of a factory outlet area. We went shop hopping after a while me CY and BT stop for CY to get a waffle. To our dismay that time WS and Boey went missing and were no where to be found. We look around the premise and but still could not find the so we ask the customer service counter to page them. The 1st announcement made by the operator was in Indonesian so we requested them to re announce in English in case they did not comprehend it as we surely did not. The operator had some difficulties translating the message into English but after help from the manager and google she manage to make the announcement in English. Still no signs of WS and Boey after the announcement being made so we head back to the hotel hoping they would come back as we could not call or text them at the time. After some time and some help from Harry we manage to reunite back at the hotel room. We took an half an hour break before departing to Bandung SuperMal for lunch and some sightseeing. We had lunch at the nicely furnished cafeteria at the mall. The security was extremely tight for a mall as we need to pass through a metal detector and have our bags check before being allowed to enter. I had nasi timbal for lunch there before deciding to skip the theme park beside the mall. That theme park is *hope i still rmb* 2nd largest in Asia. We walk around the mall and saw an interesting barber for kids. We headed back to Jln Riau's factory outlet. We shopped there till dusk visiting shop after shop. After the tiring shopping we walk back to the hotel for some much needed rest and to find a place to have dinner. We finally decided to go to Sierra Cafe and Lounge for dinner. They serve a reasonably priced steak and the flavours are not too bad either. The view from the cafe was spectacular and the air was fresh and cool. Ambience and enviroment was great apart from being a little too chilly when the wind blows. After that we headed back to the hotel to get a much needed rest after a long day. Before turning to bed BT suggested we do a little night walking which ended up with WS having supper at a local 'bistro'.

Post indon (1)

Last week I had a great time at both Kuala Lumpur and Bandung. I went down to KL with BT on the 30th of July along together with CY. Went to 1 U right after arriving in KL and only reaching to Bukit Jalil after 6. The next day was filled with fun with the outing to the classroom cafe. We played several very interesting board games in our few hours visit there. It is situated in SS15 nearby to asia cafe. After the ame we still managed to squeeze in a supper at murni subang before arriving back at around 2.30 for a short nap as we are due to depart at 7 to catch a flight to Bandung. The 1st day of Bandung was fun and tiring due to both too much activities and too little rest the night before. We rented the cab for a whole day for Rp. 350,000 which we thought was a bargain until we calculated the fare in the 2nd day. We went to Tangkubuan Prahu at 1st where we saw hot springs of different temperature situated just side by side. We also saw the volcano crater at the top and some tea plantations on the way down. Before Tangkuban Prahu we wanted to stop for food but alot of the shops were close so we just ended up eating mee bandung a shop on the way. We had a rather nice satay sapi (beef) on the way back from Tangkubuan Prahu but the satay ayam and satay kelinchi (rabbit) were just so so. After the satay stop we went to the factory outlets around setiabudi street the shopping of the day. Went back to the hotel for some much needed rest after setiabudi. At the hotel all of us were relieved by the news that we had all passed our EOS 4. After refreshing we went to Jalan Dago to have dinner there. I did not dine there as i find the conditions there are unappealing but that did not stop WS BT CY to feast. We also experience a foreign KFC and McD that night. The fast food there serve rice instead of fries in some of the set and the burger in KFC is cheaper than anything i have seen just for Rp.5000. That's it for day 1, will be updating about day 2 & 3 plus the photos soon.

End of semester 4

After weeks of studying and undergoing exams, it finally over !!!!! I had an average after examination celebration which turn great in the end. We went to midvalley for karaoke and Harry Potter 7 part 2 after the final paper Drug and Disease 1. Lots of my batch mates went together we had 5 rooms each filled with a party of 5. The day was uneventful for me till 'she' came with her friends to open a sixth room. I muster up some courage and manage to join in with them for a while before we had to leave for harry potter. It was a great finish after such a long story and we had dinner at the taiwanese shop at gardens. On the way there I saw her again from afar...... we had a great time during dinner and after it with the cameras and goodbyes.

See you in 9 months time MQ's all the best in UK .......

Planes flew by (2)

Day 2 brings us to noodles *forgot the name but something like wantan mee* for breakfast after that we headed to 1 of the malls in Port Dickson. It was empty as it was like juz 11 but i guess it will not be very crowded either judging from the amount of shops occupied. We visited a nicely build park for some photo shooting after the trip to the mall. Lunch was the next agenda on the schedule so we headed back to town to this old coffee shop which serves amazingly great chicken chops. Still savouring the taste of that chicken............. We headed back to WS home to escape the heat of the afternoon sun after lunch and hang by there till around 4 or 5. We headed to a sports club in Port Dickson next. We played tennis, ping pong, went swimming till around 7.30 and we rushed to have dinner at another place where they serve great dishes. We had a nice joke about the fish that night. After dinner, hmmm..... i think we went to town to eat dessert. After dessert everyone were tired so we just head back to WS place for some PS 2.

Day 3 was short as we needed to be back by 12. Woke up around 9 in the morning and went for breakfast to a famous shop in Lukut town which is very nearby. The noodles were nice and the soup were great !!! Plenty of ingredients were inside the bowl by the time we finish eating we were already stuffed. After breakfast we were ready to hit the road back vista. WS parents were very nice and they bought us some local delicacies that we missed. Finally we went to Seremban to pick up some Siew Pau before leaving Negeri Sembilan.

We saw planes all the time

revious weekend few of us followed Wei Siong back to his home town Port Dickson. we departed from Bukit Jalil around 12 and arrive there slightl
y after 1.30 We had chicken rice as not much stores left are open. After lunch we headed to Wei Siong's house. ABC was next on our list as we depart from the cool indoors into the hot sun. Stayed around the town area to snap some pic before heading to a beach. At the beach we saw baby turtles reared in a pond waiting for them to grow before releasing. mor
e photos at taken at the beach where no one in their right mind will wanna go for a s
wim! We headed back to Wei Siong's place after the beach and hang out there till nightfall before we leave for dinner at a cozy place serving rice and several dishes. Dessert will be
next after dinner so we headed to a place selling it. We went to another beach after fulfilling our stomach but it was a downer as the guard of the hotel came and chase us away. It turn out to be a blessing in disguise as we went to the public beach to hang out after the incident. We saw a very beautiful moon that night which we would have missed if we were in the original beach. After satisfied with the moon we left for supper at a mamak stall and headed back. We manage to play a few rounds of ps2 with Wei Siong's younge brother before we call it a nite.

That all for not will continue another time.

Character

If by Joseph Rudyard Kipling born December 30, 1865

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with triumph and disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch;

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run—

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son!

Calm

Nothing is permanent in this wicked world not even our troubles and definitely not our pleasures.

p.s. : Enjoyed the Labour's Day weekend back in Penang to the max. Arrived by Harry's car *thanks Harry* around midnight followed by a Batu Ferringi filled with jet ski, Rasa and Park Royal the next day. Sunday was a strike at Penang Bowl and the food at Captain's restaurant tasted good after a nap by the pool !!

Clarity

Sometimes being clear and sharp leads to plenty of stress so it is sometimes a blessing to be in the clouds.

P.S. : Last thursday went to I-city with some of my batch mates. I-city is situated in seksyen 17,Shah Alam. There is a total number of 17 that made the trip. We took photos, we joked and we had fun there that night.

Allein

The meaning of patience can be found by knowing trees while the knowledge of grass allows us to appreciate persistence. Tress and grass will point the way to fill the opposite chair with the right one.
